Jeremy is the Director of Educationfor Lakewood Institute of Theatre at Lakewood Playhouse. Jeremy is thrilled to be joining the Lakewood Playhouse staff and to bring over 21 years experience of working with youth in theater educational performance to the South Sound.

His passion for theater began when he was promoted from stagehand to assistant stage manager for a production of South Pacific as a junior in high school. Once bitten the theater bug encouraged him to immerse himself in theater projects learning most aspects of the process along the way.

Educator. Director. Actor. Administrator. Designer. Playwright.

For eight years he worked closely with Live Theatre Workshop in Tucson, Arizona where he started as an instructor and ultimately went on to serve three years as Artistic Director.

He served as Interim Education Manager for Fairbanks Shakespeare Theater and reveled in performing the Bard's work under the midnight sun.

Locally he has worked Village Theater in Issaquah on the education staff and performed as Matthew Shepard's father and others in The Laramie Project at Tacoma Little Theater.

"Having that moment while working with a student, when the light bulb goes off, and the world of theater opens up to them is priceless. It's an amazing gift to be able to share this world with the families of our community."

Jen Ankrum has been involved with the youth education program at the Lakewood Playhouse for over 10 years, which she can hardly believe.

Having been involved in theater and dance for many years as a child, she was eager to get her daughter involved at a young age so she enrolled her in a production of Peter Pan ... And that was that.

Since that first production, she has directed a number of youth shows as well as become an active member of main stage production, serving as scenic artist, stage manager, prop master and occasional actress.

"Theatre is an amazing environment for every type of child. The skills that are developed in the rehearsal and production process as invaluable and easily translated to every facet of life."

"Come play with us! Come on.. You know you wanna ...."

LIT
DIRECTOR

Nena Curley graduated from the College of Idaho in May 2011 with a BFA in Theatre. Her focus was on Stage Management and she has put that education and experience to use in the South Sound working with many local theatre companies. Her most recent credits include Stage Managing The Miracle Worker at Lakewood Playhouse and Dial M For Murder at Tacoma Little Theatre.

Nena is the past Production Manager for LIT and now serves as the Production Manager for Lakewood Playhouse.

With several years experience as a youth director Nena brings her overall theatrical experience including music and acting to our students.  Her gentle nature, fathomless patience and level headedness makes her a natural to be our lead instructor for Early Stars.

Nena is also lead Instructor for our Southgate Project, a project that brings theatre technique and performance to the at-risk students at Southgate Elementary.
